On February 20, 2025, ENEOS Renewable Energy Corporation (ERE) announced plans to repower its 12.2MW Uruma Mega Solar Power Plant in Uruma City, Okinawa Prefecture.
ENEOS Renewable Energy Management Corporation (EREM), a subsidiary of ERE responsible for the operation and management of the plant, will oversee the repowering project in collaboration with High-Tex, Inc. (High-Tex) and Hamada Co., Ltd. (Hamada). High-Tex will carry out the design, mounting, and installation of new panels, while Hamada will conduct the recycling of approximately 50,000 decommissioned solar panels.
The retired solar panels are expected to achieve a recycling rate of approximately 90%, according to ERE. Glass components, which constitute about 60% of each panel, will be repurposed into glass wool and decorative glass products.
ERE Group and Hamada are both members of Japan’s Solar Panel Reuse and Recycling Association.
