Rexia Corporation (Rexia), a joint venture between Marubeni Corporation and Hamada Co., Ltd., has launched Japan’s first online platform dedicated to the reuse and recycling of used solar panels.
According to Rexia, the platform is designed to serve the following users:
- Businesses requiring replacement panels for the operation and maintenance (O&M) of solar power plants
- Businesses seeking to dispose of solar panels affected by natural disasters or equipment upgrades
- Businesses looking to start solar power generation in a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable manner
- Businesses engaged in large-scale, nationwide solar panel recycling
The platform offers several key features, including:
- Diverse Procurement Sources – A wide inventory enables instant purchase of compatible or alternative panels.
- Economic & Environmental Benefits – Promotes a shift away from the traditional “disposal at a cost” approach to a new value proposition: selling used solar panels for revenue while contributing to sustainability.
- Guaranteed Quality for Used Panels – All panels undergo performance inspections and are sold with Rexia’s unique warranty.
- High Recycling Efficiency – Solar panels that cannot be resold are processed through a nationwide network of specialized recycling companies, ensuring high material recovery rates and avoiding landfill disposal.
Rexia’s warranty for used solar panels is particularly noteworthy and could further drive the adoption of second-life solar panels. According to the company’s website, the three-year warranty—Rexia states that this is the industry’s first initiative offering such a warranty period for used panels—applies to all solar panels sold by Rexia and covers products that experience natural failure. The warranty does not apply to product failure arising from human or natural disasters. This product-warranty initiative could establish a new industry benchmark.
