Kitakyushu City’s New Solar Circular Initiative: Kitakyushu Triangle Model

Kitakyushu City, located in Fukuoka Prefecture in western Japan, has launched the Kitakyushu Triangle Model, a pioneering public-private circular economy initiative for solar panels—the first of its kind in the nation. 

On November 25, 2024, Kitakyushu City signed a partnership agreement with Hamada Co., Ltd. and Shinryo Corporation. Through this collaboration, the city aims to actively promote the deployment of second-life solar panels. 

  • Kitakyushu City – Plans to widely adopt second-life solar panels. 
  • Hamada Co., Ltd. – Specializes in solar panel reuse and recycling, including PPA projects utilizing second-life panels. 
  • Shinryo Co., Ltd. – Located in Kitakyushu Eco-Town and equipped with advanced solar panel recycling technology, achieving a recycling rate of over 99%.
